My experience of the pandemic began with heavy quarantine in early March with limited trips to the grocery store every two weeks being my only outdoor activity. I had to find new ways to be in my body and get enough exercise so that I would not decline into entropy/disorder. I would engage in group video chats with family and friends to stay connected. I would take photos of the light as it entered my apartment at different angles as the day went on.

The motivation behind “Pandemic Self-Portrait White” was a yearning to be in Nature and fresh air without the danger of other people and the virus. It was also a celebration of nature as the trees outside my apartment were starting to bud in late April. I had this idea that Nature would flourish in Man's absence from polluting the earth during the quarantine.

I made this image with four exposures, starting with my profile and adding layers of pear blossoms in varying opacities. Looking at the portrait upon completion, I felf like I could breathe a little easier as if I had spliced myself with nature. I have since spliced myself with clouds, rocks and the ocean.

SELF-PORTRAITS: PHOTOGRAPHERS IN CONFINEMENT

Curated by Svetlana Bachevanova (USA/France)

A collection of self-portraits made by photojournalists from five continents during the unprecedent lockdown due to the corona virus pandemic.

Photographers are people on the road, living to document the lives of others.

Constrained by the lockdown, many of them had their first  experience of being still long enough to begin seeing and understanding small details about who they are, their lifestyles and values, that were overshadowed while they were busy. These self-portraits express their experience.

This is a unique collection of self-portraits from some of the best lenses in photojournalism at an historic moment.

Photographers in Confinement is a project in process and I welcome additional submissions from photojournalists at svetlana@fotoevidence.com

I am looking for potential exhibition partners in the USA and abroad.

Svetlana Bachevanova is a founder and publisher of FotoEvidence, long time photojournalist and curator.
