Self Portrait, Isolation Creation Series IX "All I ever wanted was to reach out and touch another human being not just with my hands but with my heart."
— Tahereh Mafi
In this time of uncertainty and fear it is especially essential to reach out to those most vulnerable, call your loved ones, say hello to people on the street, it might be the only interaction they have that day or just send a text to someone saying they are in your thoughts.
I had no thoughts of evoking religious iconography for this photo but that is what I love about photography, each image a story that’s plot organically evolves like a dance with the concept in mind.
Isolation Creation Series is a creative response to the global isolation created by the COVID-19 pandemic during an 8 week period. The series consists of thirteen self-portraits all taken in a small room in my apartment, All props and costumes were made by reconstructing fabrics and other objects found at hand. It was a way for me to express myself and work through all the emotions I had during this time while testing my inventiveness and creativity in fabricating these scenes.
SELF-PORTRAITS: PHOTOGRAPHERS IN CONFINEMENT
Curated by Svetlana Bachevanova
A collection of self-portraits made by photojournalists from five continents during the unprecedent lockdown due to the corona virus pandemic.
Photographers are people on the road, living to document the lives of others.
Constrained by the lockdown, many of them had their first experience of being still long enough to begin seeing and understanding small details about who they are, their lifestyles and values, that were overshadowed while they were busy. These self-portraits express their experience.
This is a unique collection of self-portraits from some of the best lenses in photojournalism at an historic moment.
Photographers in Confinement is a project in process and I welcome additional submissions from photojournalists at svetlana@fotoevidence.com
I am looking for potential exhibition partners in the USA and abroad.
Svetlana Bachevanova is a founder and publisher of FotoEvidence, long time photojournalist and curator.
