Halsey Stoops
by Gabriel Munhoz from Brooklyn, NY
“Stoop culture” has always been a big thing in NYC. With the pandemic and the arrival of summer, stoops became even more precious, a place to vent out a little, look the outside world, maybe some small group gatherings during the slow reopening. Having walked more frequently around my neighborhood to avoid public transportation, I noticed how lively and diverse those stoops are. So I started to document the people and their stoops on my street, Halsey St, in Brooklyn, and ask some of them how do they envision the future once they can step out freely again.
“I think it’s about embracing community more and being more aware of your community in terms of literally who is living next to you to the way that you go through the world.”
“Even walking down the street now, you just feel so much energy, and so much love and so much vibe.”
“It’s hard to make plans. My plan today is to drink this and spend time hanging out.”
“That’s why when I look in the future I’m not scared, because I read this all before. It’s in the book; it’s called the bible.”
