EARTH DAYIt is just fifty years since the first Earth Day. At that time, people were planting gardens and sweeping the streets, motivated to be of service in part because of a widely seen photograph, “Earthrise,” made by the astronaut Bill Anders. Viewed for the first time from outer space, the Earth seemed fragile and lonely in the enormity of the cosmos, in need of help. Now, in the midst of this pandemic that has made the frailty and degradation of our ecosystem newly apparent, we are launching Fotodemic. This project started as Zoom meetings of a group of former students from the International Center of Photography to discuss what we could do as image makers during these times. We created this platform to share ideas and images with input from contributors from around the globe. We believe we can use visual stories to reflect, move forward responsibly, and provoke change for the better.– Fotodemic Artwork by Ana VallejoFEATURED PROJECTS Featured AMNESIA IN THE LAND OF HYPERMEMORY by Danielle Ezzo In ukraine Curated by Ira Lupu & Fred Ritchin verde como el oro Directed by Isabella Bernal the journey Diary Curation by Stephen Mayes Fair Foto Interview with Adam Broomberg CATHY AT WAR by Jacques Menasche URI MWIZA MAMA by Jean BizimanaInterviewed by Daniela López Amézquita THE nonhuman-photography-issue Our first themed issue of 2021 FINDING MEANING IN PANDEMIC by Yonas Tadesse Essay by Maaza Mengiste MEMORY IS IN THE HANDS OF WOMEN An Interview, in English and Spanish, with Zahara Gómez Lucini
