Sila

Sila is a video-based project, delving into the psychological space I have found myself to be in the past few years, and that has been intensified during the pandemic. I find myself lost, longing for quiet and calmness in the chaos that is in my mind. The video is made with black and white still images, produced every day, mostly between 10 pm and 4 am in New York, starting March 15, during the COVID-19 pandemic.

With a soundtrack that draws on traditional storytelling, such as drum dancing from eastern Greenland and throat singing from Nunavut, this project is exploring the relativity of perception of reality.

Sila is a Pan-Inuit word with a variety of meanings including consciousness, the universe, the world, the weather, the air and the space outside.
