In Bubbles

by Marcia Charnizon from Belo Horizonte, Brazil

Bubbles have always existed and, as Italo CalvinO would say, “the voice is not the commander: it is the ear.”

Political polarization, social bubbles and the game of algorithms, the confinement that society insists on maintaining LGBTQI and all the letters that emerge, the compulsory isolation that society imposes on older people, the bubbles in which all minority groups and low-income population live…

If I showed this work before 2020, each one, in every part of the world, would make different readings of this sign - “bubble.” Did this year bring us a new meaning, globalized, lived by almost everyone on this planet and the most incredible, at the same time? The 2020 bubbles reveal the awareness of isolation, where concerns are closely linked to urban spaces, their integration, use “x” disintegration and degradation. With this, the need for new ethical and moral decisions arises. The city of the civilized human being dictates all the rules of our routine.

What happens, then, when this space is taken from us? Isolation seems to suffocate people, where reality, fiction, dreams and vigils become confused, since many of our dramas are due to the contradictions that the modern world presents us and the relationship with urban spaces. that we inhabit.

The provocation that I put myself in this work is about the changing signs.

I started this project in 2019 in response to a concern about the bubbles that surround us, protect us, and also attack us.
