NY Says Goodbye

The days before the election, New York City boarded up its windows and businesses, preparing for the worse. For four long days after election day, the streets were eerie and quiet as we all waited. Around noon on Saturday November 7th, a wave of joy amplified across the boroughs as people chanted and cheered out of windows, on the streets, and in public spaces. The whole city erupted into a massive, celebratory block party.
After months of loss, tragedy, and protesting, November 7th came as a long needed breath of fresh air. After a week that felt like winter with low temperatures, a sunny perfect fall weather harmonized a memorable collective catharsis.
This diary commemorates a historical day—the day that New York said goodbye to the past four years and welcomed change—from the points of view of six different nationalities: USA, Mexico, Greenland, Canada, Colombia, and Russia.
